Investment Analyst/Associate

Introduction

The Investment Funds for Health in Africa (“IFHA”) is looking for an Investment Analyst/Associate (full-time, 40 hours) to be based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This is a serious career step for a high potential candidate in a rapidly growing area.

  • Leading emerging market investor in health: IFHA’s private equity funds are dedicated to small to medium size (equity) investments in private healthcare companies in Africa. At IFHA, we invest in private healthcare companies that operate in fast-growing markets and show unique advantages over the competition. Investments include the largest for-profit private healthcare provision chain in East Africa and the largest Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) in Nigeria.
  • Long term growth: IFHA is responding to the growing need for capital investments in private healthcare in Africa, which are driven by rising incomes, increasing population and the growing incidence of non-communicable diseases.

Setting: IFHA operates in a dynamic and entrepreneurial setting. As an investment Analyst/Associate you will have many opportunities for growth and will travel to Africa (c. 4-5 times per year). You will have an active and diverse role through the entire investment process involving close cooperation with the fund’s partners, investment managers and with the investee companies themselves. You will be learning quickly from the management team’s strong commercial and financial expertise through your support.

Responsibilities

As an investment Analyst/Associate, you will participate in activities including the following:

  • Relationship management and screening: of new investment opportunities from first contact to the closing of transactions. As the first point of contact with IFHA, you will efficiently screen and analyse potential direct investment opportunities.
  • Fundraising: You will have the opportunity to take part in fundraising activities, including at both fund and investment specific levels.
  • Exits: You will play an active role in creating exit proposals, performing valuations, creating supporting financial models and assisting in the exit negotiations of IFHA’s strategic assets with counterparties.
  • Value creation: Private equity is a diverse field, which you will gain real business and financial experience. There are many opportunities to generate value through diverse tasks, from small to extensive. These can include analyses of potential mergers and acquisitions, economies and industries but can also involve high level strategic decision making.

Education and experience

It is essential that you have:

  • A master’s degree in finance, accountancy, economics or professional equivalent, e.g. CFA
  • Between 2-5 years of private equity, consultancy, accountancy or investment banking experience (strong finance and accounting skills are particularly important)
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • A hands on mentality with the ability to take initiative and be creative under pressure
  • Eligibility for a work permit in the Netherlands

  • Affinity with the healthcare sector
  • Cross-cultural experience
